Drinking a yard of ale is not for amateurs.
My success as a champion yard of ale drinker in my much younger days was based on firstly drinking real ale and not foreign gnat’s piss (there was therefore no fizz, which slows you down) and secondly on two mantras by which I have lived life successfully for the last fifty years, discipline and structure.
Open your throat and turn the glass yard of ale slowly through your hands at a 45 degree angle. Like the old adage, more haste less speed!
But don’t think even in my prime, and I was very thirsty once having just scored a hundred at cricket, I could have managed a socially distanced 2.2 yards! So based on that, I accept that kids have it tough today…
